Yeah... that appeals about as much as I thought a Venom teaser trailer would.

Here's the first trailer for the Bumblebee movie.

Actually looks like it might be okay. Or at least, not a total shitshow.

And Starscream actually looks like Starscream! How about that?

OK, I like that they've made him not a Camaro..., and I like that the jet looks like a proper Decepticon Seeker... With those colours it could be Ramjet though...

I really, really want to like the Bumblebee trailer. It does show that G1 style bots with real armor can look effective and realistic. And Starscream looks 1000 times better than he ever did.

But...

I really hate that Bumblebee can't talk. Taking away his ability to speak was the stupidest thing in a long line of stupid things that Michael Bay did in the franchise. And strangely, it's kind of become Bumblebee's main characteristic, to the point that they kept it in the later movies after Ratchet fixes it at the end of the first one. It even showed up in the Transformers Prime cartoon. I know this is supposed to be a prequel, and that Megatron crushed his voice box on Cybertron, but I really hate this aspect of the character. They could get his original voice actor, Dan Gilvezan, to do his voice. He's still around (I met him at a convention a couple years ago), and provided Bumblebee's voice for the Transformers Devastation video game.

I'm also a little concerned that John Cena is in it. I know he's been acting a lot lately, but I just don't think he's good at it.

And it seems odd that Bumblebee's face is just sticking out of the bottom of his car mode. That might make sense for a toy, but not very practical for an actual robot.

These are all valid concerns.

Bumblebee's lack of voice never bothered me too much. (In Bay films, having someone who can't talk a mile a minute is something of a novelty.) Especially in this context, because it heightens the "strange visitor" aspect. If he could just lay out the entire history of Cybertron like Optimus Prime always did, then the interplay between him and Charlie might not be as interesting. Maybe Charlie's the one who teaches him how to talk through his radio?

John Cena is...who knows. He looks like he might be one of the "bad guys" at least at first, which might suit him better. I'm just glad he's not the lead.

The face....yeah. I think it's a fun nod to the toys, and makes for a good dramatic reveal in the trailer, but it's pretty silly.

I saw the short trailer for Mortal Engines somewhere the other day and forgot to share it here (because I was on my phone not at my PC). It looks like good, stupid fun...

On an unrelated note what's the deal with trailers all starting with a splash screen telling you you're about to watch the trailer? Do they think we all forgot what we were looking at?

I think it's a way to hype it up, to make it seem like a big deal. Maybe it comes from when they're first shown on TV, to let people know to get ready so they don't miss any of it. Like it's some sort of cultural event. "Where were you when you first saw the Bumblebee trailer? "
