Well? Good, bad, indifferent? Let us know.

I'll start.

Just watched the remake of The Magnificent Seven. with Denzel Wahington and Chris Pratt, Directed by Antoine Fuqua. It really wasn't terrible, really. It had some beautiful cinematography (Antoine Fuqua's specialty I believe) and a couple of decent character beats. Its just that there was no reason to make it. It adds nothing to the property. It certainly isn't better in anyway that the original 60s version, and nowhere even close to the Kurasawa version (Although there is a nice visual throwback to the Kurasawa version when the bad guy army comes over the hill).

In short, if you can watch it for free, on a rainy Saturday afternoon, it'll kill a few hours, but I wouldn't pay good money to see it.

Okay, here we go then.

The Wife made me take her to see the second instalment of the Fifty Shades series, entitled "Fifty Shades Darker"

It was pretty much exactly what I expected it to be. Some incredibly clumsy dialogue, some unnecessarily bad and transparent plot devices, and lots, and lots of screen time for Dakota Johnson's knockers. They could have had top billing on the poster. This is not something I would have expected to complain about in a movie, but at times it really did seem like they were just there to keep the husbands and boyfriends in the audience awake...

See it if you have a significant other who wants you to and it would make them happy. Apparently it follows the book better than the first one did, so I suppose thats something.

It's a brave man that admit that, Soylent. Fortunately, my wife has no interest in those books or movies.

We watched the first one when it reached HBO or Showtime, and certainly felt like masochists after finishing it.

I wouldn't sit through another of those, even for titties.

That's because they are bad, bad, naughty movies that deserve to be punished.

Yeah, there are easier ways to see boobs than suffering through that.

Film Theory did a recent episode about how the male lead is using cult indoctrination techniques throughout the entire thing. Was almost interesting enough for me to think about watching, almost.

Well, being in a cult is basically a dominant/submissive relationship en masse, so it makes sense that the indoctrination methods would be similar...

That fanfic is almost as bad as the series it was based on. It would be worse, except that 50 Shades only teaches people how to do an unhealthy BDSM relationship, which most people won't bother with or will only take certain aspects from. Twilight teaches people, specifically young girls, that unhealthy, abusive relationships are something to strive for. Twilight is the worst book ever written for narrative, technical, and artistic reasons. But also because I honestly believe it's done and is doing more actual damage to people than nearly any book ever written. At the very least it's in the conversations.

Also I saw Frozen recently and I thought it was a really good movie trapped inside of a bad one.

Hear, hear!

Well, not about Frozen. I thought Frozen was great.

But Twilight and its overblown fanfic are cancerous for numerous reasons. It really sucks that so many people - especially young girls - have glommed onto these books and movies when they really are terrible examples for relationships, whether they're vanilla or BDSM or somewhere on the spectrum. Creepy wannabe-vampire dudes are thrilled, though.

I really wanted to like Frozen, but there are just a few things I can't get past. Like how Anna and Elsa's parents are the worst biological parents in this history of Disney animated Movies. Or that Hans being evil comes out of nowhere and doesn't actually make any sense considering his actions during the rest of the movie.

You should check out Moana. Totally empowering female lead. No romantic subplots. Ridiculous chicken sidekick.

Ridiculous chicken sidekick that's voiced by Alan Tudyk for some reason.

And Jermaine from Flight of the Conchords as a giant evil crab.
