Re: Most recent Movie: How was it?

I felt like all the major characters were pretty well-served by the story, not an easy feat with that many characters.

Looking forward to Phase... what, four now? In any case, looking forward to them putting Thanos behind them, I hope the next uber-villain is more dynamic.

Re: Most recent Movie: How was it?

Yeah, it was definitely fun, and it really nailed the comic book theme of drawing strength from a found family. In fact, I think I enjoyed the Billy Batson parts much more than the Shazam! parts. That said, one of my fears after the watching the trailers came true, I didn't care for goofball Cap ver...

Re: Captain Marvel

It wasn't a big part of his backstory, but originally Mar-Vell came to earth in the guise of scientist Walter Lawson to spy on earth, so it was rooted in the comics. Neither change bothered me. In fact, I thought the Skrull twist was fantastic. It's stupid that comics so often treat entire races as ...

Hopefully it will be less than 5 minutes before the credits just to remind everyone and then move on.

Re: Most recent Movie: How was it?

Pretty much where I am with it. Given a choice between fun-dumb and grim-dumb, I'll take fun-dumb every time. One of the things that concerns me about Arthur going forward is that his "hard-drinking fringe hero" persona was far more engaging and interesting than the "destined ruler" he becomes. I d...

Re: Most recent Movie: How was it?

Aquaman - well, its DC, so I had pretty low expectations. And while it wasn't as offensively bad as I found some of the DC films, it was still very stupid. Powerfully stupid. I liked some things, I will admit. It looks pretty good, and some of the fight scenes were actually exciting, but ... well, ...

Re: Most recent Movie: How was it?

Saw Superman: The Movie in the theater on Sunday, out for a limited 40-year anniversary re-release (and boy howdy, does that make me feel old). Anyway, still the best superhero movie of all time. Surprisingly both my sons agreed with me, despite having been raised on a steady diet of Marvel movies p...

I got the 7-day free trial through Amazon, binged the series, and cancelled before the trial ended. Didn't cost me a thing.

It was very good. My second fav Trek after TOS and TNG.

Re: Star Trek: Discovery

A little over halfway through the first season. I'm not sweating the continuity, so just enjoying the ride. It's not as entertaining as some of the the best classic/TNG Trek, but the cast is outstanding. Pound-for-pound the best cast of any Trek TV show.
